Find the Hotel
Probably, the most popular way to reach Copacabana is a bus from La Paz, Bolivia, and from Puno, Peru. The traveling from La Paz is quite beautiful with an estimation of approximately 4-5 hours. Buses leave regularly from Terminal de Buses in La Paz. The journey features this rather peculiar crossing of the Strait of Tiquina, in which passengers disembark and board a small passenger ferry while the bus goes on a separate barge. Very cheap and real traveling.
From where the buses drop you at the main bus dropping area in Copacabana which generally is either on the main square or along the lake front, Hotel Utama is at a short walk of 5-10 minutes up the hill. While the walk isn’t long, the high altitude makes it quite an imposition if you are bearing heavy luggage. It’s probably a good idea to take it easy or hire a local cycle-rickshaw for that final little journey to the hotel.
The nearest airport for international travelers is El Alto International Airport (LPB) in La Paz. From the airport, a taxi or shuttle will take you to the city center to the main bus terminal to fetch the bus to Copacabana. It is highly recommended to have made a prior booking for a good tourist bus all through to Copacabana from La Paz for safety as well as comfort.
